Baarish/maLe/rain..These days it has been raining cats and dogs in Bay Area making you wish for either garam garam chai with pakode or garma garam khichdi with achaar and dahi.. Keeping the weather in mind, what I have here is a super-fast recipe for Khichadi which is healthy soupy mix of daals (lentils) and rice. Check it out below.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of split moong daal
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1 tbsp of ghee
  • 1 tsp of jeera or cumin seeds
  • 1 pinch of haldi or tumeric powder
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
Method:
  • Soak rice and daal together for 10-15 min
  • Pressure cook the soaked daal and rice together with 3-3.5 cups of water and keep aside
  • Reuse the cooker or in a separate pan, add ghee, followed by jeera till it splutters and subsides
  • Add the cooked syrupy rice daal mix
  • Add haldi, red chilly powder and salt
  • Bring the mix to a boil and serve

Serve hot with curds and a slice of pickle.

Mad Notes:
  • Add extra water to ensure khichadi is soup like
  • You may add other daal along with split moong
